Overview
Introduced with the Xbox 360’s release in November 2005, the Blades UI was the console’s first dashboard interface.
Design Concept
Each “blade” was a tab-like panel that slid horizontally across the screen. Users could navigate between blades using the left and right bumpers or joystick, with each blade representing a core category:
Xbox Live: Friends list, messages, downloads
Games: Recently played titles, achievements
Media: Music, videos, photos
System: Console settings, storage, profiles
Visual Style: The UI featured clean lines, subtle gradients, and animated transitions. It was designed to be lightweight and responsive, optimized for controller input and 480p/720p displays.
Role
UI Production Artist responsible for implementing design updates, motion, asset creation, iconography, and bug fixes within the Xbox 360 engine
